Former Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler has commented on the upcoming welterweight division title fight between Colby Covington and Leon Edwards at UFC 296 on the night of December 17.
Chandler told Body Slam:
Michael Chandler
I think Leon has a newfound self-belief in himself, but if I had to be a betting man, which I’m not, I would lean toward Colby. I think he has more tools. I think he has more ways to win. Leon’s not going to be able to stop the takedowns, I believe. He’s not going to be able to handle the pace of Colby, and I don’t think Leon’s going to get the lucky head kick he got against Kamaru.
Covington last fought against Jorge Masvidal in March 2022 at UFC 272. In that confrontation, Colby won by unanimous decision of the judges. He has 17 wins and three losses on his record.
Edwards last entered the octagon against Kamaru Usman in March of this year at UFC 286. That fight went the full distance and ended in Leon's favor by majority decision of the judges. He has 21 wins and three losses on his record.
