American UFC fighter Michael Chandler has shared his thoughts on a potential match with former double champion Conor McGregor from Ireland.
Michael Chandler for Newsweek
We've got history, so Chandler vs McGregor needs to happen and will happen at some point. I do think Conor's first fight back in the UFC is me. It just depends on when he is gonna be ready and it's gonna depend on timing. Either way, I'm fighting for the lightweight title, and I'm also fighting Conor McGregor at some point in 2025.
The fight between McGregor and Chandler was initially scheduled for June this year at UFC 303 in Las Vegas, but the matchup was canceled due to a leg injury suffered by the Irishman.
Chandler last fought against Dustin Poirier in November 2022 at UFC 281, where he lost by submission in the third round. His record stands at 23 wins and eight losses.
McGregor last stepped into the octagon against the same Poirier in July 2021 at UFC 264, where he lost by technical knockout due to a leg break. His record currently stands at 22 wins and six losses.
