Former UFC two-division champion Henry Cejudo commented on the possible upcoming bout between undefeated welterweight Khamzat Chimaev and former title challenger Colby Covington.
I think Colby is a more experienced fighter. He's been fighting a lot longer than Khamzat Chimaev, I think it's going to be a good fight. I believe it's going to come down to who's going to recover from the cut quicker. And if it's a five-round fight, I'm almost inclined to favor Colby Covington, given what we saw in the Gilbert Burns fight with Hamzat Chimaev. I'm not sure if Chimaev can ever make the welterweight division.
A fight between Chimaev and Covington can take place on March 18, 2023 in London, according to multiple media reports.
Recall that Chimaev fought Kevin Holland at UFC 279 in September of this year. The fight took place at interim weight due to Chimaev's failure to lose weight. Chimaev won that fight with a chokehold in the first round. Khamzat was initially scheduled to lead the card that night against Nate Diaz. Chimaev has 12 wins and no losses in mixed martial arts under his belt.
Covington stepped into the cage against his compatriot Jorge Masvidal in March of this year. The match went the full distance and ended in Colby's favor by unanimous decision. He has 17 wins and three losses under his belt.
