Top Brazilian welterweight fighter Gilbert Burns offered his prediction for the upcoming fight between Colby Covington and Joaquin Buckley, set for December 15 as the main event of UFC on ESPN 63.
“I think Buckley’s in the best momentum right now, but (wrestling is) Buckley’s kryptonite. One of my favorite teammates is Logan Storley, he was the interim Bellator champ, he fought Buckley, and Logan just outwrestled him," said Burns.
Colby is always training, he’s always in shape. I think Colby might give a lot of problems to Buckley, keep taking him down with that crazy pace. If Buckley cannot put Colby out of there in the first or the second round, I think Colby will overwhelm him and beat him up. Colby can get maybe a dominant decision win, or Buckley can get a quick knockout in the first or in the second round. If Buckley can’t finish Covington in the first or second round, I believe Colby will take him down and pound him out. Colby can win by decision, and Buckley by knockout
Buckley last entered the octagon in October 2024 at UFC 307, where he knocked out Stephen Thompson in the third round. His record includes 20 wins and six losses.
Covington's most recent fight was against Leon Edwards in December 2023 at UFC 296. Colby lost that fight by unanimous decision. His record stands at 17 wins and four losses.
