Spanish website RAC1 reported that the Barcelona City Council is against hosting a UFC mixed martial arts league tournament in the city.
Earlier, promotion head Dana White stated that the organization aims to hold an event in either Madrid or Barcelona. However, according to the report, the city council opposes the idea, expressing reluctance to promote MMA in Spain. They also claim that UFC representatives have not been in contact with them. It’s noted that it’s still possible for White's promotion to organize the event, but in a private manner.
As a reminder, the current featherweight title is held by the Spanish-Georgian fighter Ilia Topuria.
