UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has criticized the existence of a ranking of the promotion's top fighters regardless of weight class. Aspinall himself is ranked 11th in this ranking.
MMA Fighting quoted Aspinall as saying:
What is this pound-for-pound bullshit? It's a load of rubbish. It just doesn't even make sense. Don't get me started on that shit. It's just like, how can you have a pound-for-pound ranking? What does that [mean]?
Aspinall will rematch Curtis Blaydes on July 27 at UFC 304 in Manchester. The first fight between these fighters took place in July 2022 at UFC Fight Night 208. In this fight, Curtis won by technical knockout after Tom was unable to continue the fight due to a knee injury.
Aspinall has 14 wins and three losses in mixed martial arts. Blaydes has 18 wins and four losses on his record, with one fight ruled a no-contest.
