UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya spoke out about the outcome of the title fight between Islam Makhachev and Alex Volkanovski, which ended in the victory of the Russian fighter.
Israel Adesanya
There’s a conspiracy that Chance, my boy Chance kind of put me on to. I was in Perth, I was right there…Volk is a great fighter, and [the] Dagestanis, they’re f***ing awesome at their wrestling and whatnot. But this guy has a myth, and Alex f***ed him up…I didn’t say this, Chance said this. I’m just paraphrasing…He said like, ‘Look at the movement right now with Fight Island, Abu Dhabi, the stake that they have in the UFC. It pays them to have a champ that’s from that side of the world.
Recall, the fight between Volkanovski and Makhachev, which took place in February, 2023, at the UFC 284 tournament, ended with the victory of Islam by unanimous decision of the judges. Volkanovski, 34, has 25 wins and two losses under his belt. Makhachev, 31, has 24 wins and one loss.
Alex Volkanovski will take his next fight against Yair Rodriguez at UFC 290, which will be held on July 8 in Las Vegas.
