Papua New Guinea stood no chance against Bangladesh as PNG lost by a total of 84 runs. Bangladesh now moves on to the Second Round, which is dubbed as the Super 12s and has overcome the opening game loss to Scotland in this Qualifying stage of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Bangladesh put on a massive 181 runs batting first. The team lost Mohammad Naim for a duck in the first over but that didn’t deter other batters. Mahmudullah topped all run-scorers with 50 runs off 28 balls meanwhile Shakib Al Hasan made 46 runs in 37 balls. Meanwhile, Saifuddin notched 19 runs in just six balls, including two sixes.
On the other hand, Papua New Guinea lost seven wickets for just 29 runs and looked in tatters versus both spinners and pacers. The innings gained some respectability courtesy of the wicketkeeper batter who made a scintillating 46 runs off 34 balls. Although, the loss may be heavy, we must keep in mind that PNG is a budding team and doesn’t have either resources or experiences like Bangladesh.
