Hong Kong has earned the ticket for the initial qualifying rounds for the next year’s T20 World Cup. The team did so without having to step on the field as COVID-based travel restrictions forced the cancellation of Asia B Qualifiers. Bhutan, China, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Hong Kong would have competed in the tournament, slated for next month, but due to cancellation, Hong Kong, who is a higher-ranked team among them is going to advance further.
Hong Kong, ranked twenty-three globally will now move on to the Global Qualifiers, which has sixteen teams who will compete for the top four spots. COVID-based restrictions also forced the cancellation of sub-regional qualifying tournaments in Europe which led to the qualification of Italy, Denmark, and Germany.
