Washington misses NHL playoffs first time since 2014

Washington Capitals lost their chances of making the National Hockey League (NHL) playoffs in the 2022/23 season on the night of April 5.

Capitals with legendary Russian forward Alexander Ovechkin, who has played with them since the 2005/06 season, lost their chances of making the Stanley Cup playoffs after the Florida Panthers' 2-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres.

Washington has 77 points and 13th place in the Eastern Conference standings. The Capitals will play five games before the end of the regular season. The gap from eighth place is ten points.

Washington will not participate in the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time since 2014. In the 2021/22 season, the Capitals were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, losing to Florida after six games.
