Stanley Cup Sees Fastest Goal in 18 Years

Dallas Stars forward Wyatt Johnston scored a rapid goal in the Stanley Cup playoffs. In the fifth game of the first round against the Colorado Avalanche, the 21-year-old found the back of the net just 9 seconds into the match.

This goal set a new record for the club and ranks eighth in NHL history. The fastest goal ever belongs to Don Kozak, a player for the Los Angeles Kings, who scored in just six seconds in April 1977.

The last time a goal was scored this quickly in an NHL playoff game was by Derek Roy (also at 9 seconds) during a matchup between the Buffalo Sabres and Ottawa Senators in May 2007.

The Dallas Stars defeated the Colorado Avalanche in that match with a convincing score of 6-2, now leading the series 3-2 in a best-of-seven matchup.
