Russian forward Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals ranked second on the list of the highest paid hockey players in the National Hockey League (NHL).
In the league's new season, Ovechkin will earn $14 million before taxes and agent fees. Topping the list for the second straight season and fourth time in the last five years is Edmonton captain Connor McDavid with 15.3 million euros.
Ovechkin has been in the NHL since the 2005/06 season. During his time in the league, the Russian forward played 1,274 games in which he scored 780 goals and provided 630 assists.
The Russian is among the top three all-time NHL scorers. Ovechkin needs 114 more pucks to reach the top spot which is occupied by Gretzky (894). During the 2021/22 NHL season the Russian forward played 77 regular season games, scoring 50 goals and providing 40 assists.
