World and European champion Iker Casillas tweets about being gay

Former Real Madrid and Spanish national team goalkeeper Iker Casillas has revealed he is gay.

"I hope you will be respectful. I am gay," the 41-year-old former goalkeeper wrote on his social media accounts, adding the hashtag "happy Sunday."

Casillas played for the "royal club" from 1998 to 2015 before leaving for Porto. He ended his professional career in 2020. As part of the Spanish national team Casillas won two European Championships (2008, 2012) and the World Cup (2010).

The famous footballer was in a relationship with Spanish TV presenter Sara Carbonero for 12 years. They have two sons. In 2021 the couple announced their divorce.
