According to journalist Matt Hughes, West Ham's midfielder Lucas Paqueta may face a lifetime ban for influencing four Premier League matches with the aim of betting.
Initially accused on May 23, the 26-year-old midfielder was expected to receive a ten-year ban if proven involved in a betting scheme with 60 associated persons.To trigger their bets, Paqueta earned four yellow cards. The investigation revealed that one of the bets, jeopardizing the player's career, was merely 800 rubles.
The Brazilian has been part of West Ham since August 29, 2022, with his contract expiring on June 30, 2027. In the last season, the midfielder scored eight goals and provided seven assists in 43 matches across various tournaments. Transfermarkt estimates the player at €65 million.
