Tusker FC coach Charles Okere believes the team has the ability to replicate the 2016 side and go for a double this season. The Brewers start their Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup campaign away to lower tier side Gucha Youth, and are also in the running for the Premier League title.
The brewers are second in the league standings with 39 points after 21 matches, just two points shy of leaders Police FC. With the Cup adventure starting this weekend, coach Okere believes they can attack on two fronts.
Tusker is a big team and we have to fight for every trophy available for us. At the start of the season we set targets and one of them was to challenge for the League and Cup double. We believe it is achievable and very much doable. We have a squad with a lot of depth and we can challenge for the two trophies. We have to maintain focus and take a match at a time.
Tusker reached the quarter finals of the tournament last season, while previously, they got to the final and lost to Kakamega Homeboyz.
In the league, Tusker are still challenging for the crown. Despite three back-to-back 0-0 draws, coach Okere remains optimistic they are on the right path.
You can look at it in two ways, we have not scored in three games, but we have also not conceded in all. This was a problem for us last season. We have played Police, Gor and KCB who are all in the top five and we have not lost to them which is something positive for us. We only need to be a bit more creative offensively and we will be back to winning ways.
Tusker are looking to quench a three-year trophy drought.
