As reported by Marca, the general director of Al-Nassr held a meeting with Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk's agent and offered him a contract that could make the Dutch player the highest-paid footballer in his position worldwide.
According to the source, signing the Dutch defender will strengthen Al-Nassr's defensive line. Additionally, Al-Nassr plans to make other significant deals this summer.
In 2023, the Saudi league was bolstered by many top European footballers, including Neymar, Karim Benzema, N'Golo Kante, among others. In December 2022, Cristiano Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr.
Van Dijk has been playing for Liverpool since January 2018. In the last season, he participated in 48 matches across all competitions, scoring four goals and making two assists. His contract with the club runs until the end of June 2025. The Transfermarkt website estimates the defender at 30 million euros.
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland considers van Dijk the best player in the current Liverpool lineup.
The Liverpool defender himself named French national team forward Olivier Giroud the toughest opponent in his career.
