Three Valencia fans have been found guilty of making racist remarks against Real Madrid's forward Vinicius Junior during a La Liga match.
They have been sentenced to eight months of imprisonment for a "crime of moral turpitude" with the aggravating circumstance of racial discrimination, and are also obligated to pay court costs.
They are banned from attending stadiums where La Liga matches and other tournaments under the RFEF's jurisdiction are held for two years. During the hearings, they apologized to the football player, La Liga, and Real Madrid, claiming that they stand against racism.
Vinicius Junior moved to Real Madrid from Flamengo in July 2018 for 45 million euros. His contract with the club is until summer 2027. Last season, he played 39 matches, scoring 24 goals, and making 11 assists. According to Transfermarkt, his market value is 150 million euros.
In May, FIFA adopted five principles to combat racism in football. Junior broke down in tears while commenting on the insults he faced due to his race.
