UEFA Suspends Rodri and Morata for One Match Due to Gibraltar Chants

According to Marca, UEFA's Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Committee has decided to suspend two players from the Spanish national team—midfielder Rodri and forward Alvaro Morata—for one match.

This decision stems from an incident during the celebration of Spain's victory at Euro 2024. The 28-year-old Rodri, who plays for Manchester City, and 31-year-old Morata, now a member of AC Milan, chanted slogans suggesting that Gibraltar, a British overseas territory, is part of Spain. This behavior was deemed a violation of UEFA's core principles of decent conduct, discrediting football and the organization with their unsportsmanlike statements.

On July 14, in Berlin, the team led by Luis de la Fuente triumphed over England with a score of 2-1 in the Euro final. Rodri was named the tournament's best player, while Morata became the all-time record holder for the most matches played by a Spanish player in continental championships.
