UEFA have announced the nominees for the player of the year award for the 2022/23 season. The three nominees are Lionel Messi, Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland.
Initially, the association shortlisted the players based on the results of the last season. Then the managers of the teams participating in the European Cups chose the top three. There was a similar vote among selected journalists. The managers couldn't vote for players from their own teams.
The name of the winner of the player of the year award will be announced at the Champions League group stage draw ceremony on August 31.
