The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has presented materials explaining the changes in the Champions League format that the organization will introduce in the 2024/2025 season.
The number of participants in the main stage will increase to 36 teams, with group division replacing the so-called Swiss system where all teams are in a single table.
The number of matches will also change, with teams now playing eight games instead of six, facing a new opponent in each match.
The final stage of the tournament has also changed, with direct qualification for the top eight teams in the table after the Swiss system, while the next 16 teams will compete in elimination matches to secure their spot in the playoffs. The remaining participants, from 25th to 36th place, will end their tournament journey.
Earlier, UEFA, in collaboration with sports brand Adidas, unveiled the official balls that will be used in the knockout stage and the final match of the current season's Champions League.
