UEFA Announces Candidates for Champions League Player of the Week

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has announced the contenders for the Player of the Week award in the Champions League, following the matches of the fifth round of the group stage. Four players have made the list.

The nominees are Bayer midfielder Florian Wirtz, Atalanta forward Mateo Retegui, PSV striker Malik Tillman, and Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez.

It is noteworthy that all listed players scored two goals in their respective matches: Wirtz found the net twice against Salzburg (5-0), Retegui scored twice against Young Boys (6-1), Tillman scored a brace against Shakhtar (3-2), and Alvarez also netted two in the game against Sparta (6-0).

Earlier, UEFA's press service reported that a new record for scoring was set in the fifth round of the Champions League group stage.

In addition, Real Madrid set a negative record in their match against Liverpool, losing with a score of 0-2.
