Former AS Roma captain Francesco Totti expressed his admiration for footballers who have shown loyalty to their clubs in an interview with Telecomasia.net.
Totti dedicated his entire professional career from 1993 to 2017 to Roma, amassing 785 matches, 307 goals, and 205 assists.
– Did you know that, apart from you, Steven Gerrard, Paolo Maldini, and Igor Akinfeev are also on the list of the most loyal footballers? Do you remember playing against Akinfeev? Do you find it symbolic that you scored your last goal in the Champions League against him?
– Those are three wonderful names. They are great footballers with great legacies. I’m glad that some players represent their clubs for such a long time. As for the goal against Akinfeev, I remember it. It happened in the Champions League. I scored it the way I often did. That was the only way I could do it.
Like Totti, Akinfeev has spent his entire career with one club. The goalkeeper has played 789 matches for CSKA Moscow, keeping 328 clean sheets, while conceding 712 goals.
