Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has criticized the decision of the London club's management to sell midfielder Jorginho on the last day of the transfer window.
The 31-year-old Italian with Brazilian roots joined Arsenal, signing a contract with the Gunners until the summer of 2024. The deal was worth around 13.5 million euros.
Thiago Silva, quoted by ESPN
We sold Jorginho to a direct competitor. But this is football, these things happen. He wants to stay in England because he has family here. We have lost one of our leaders in the locker room, Jorginho, a guy who talked a lot. That void will remain, but we have to move on.
This season, Jorginho has made 25 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions, scoring three goals. The player's market value is estimated at €35 million by Transfermarkt.
