The Guardian: UEFA May Eliminate Extra Time in Champions League Playoffs

UEFA is actively discussing the possibility of eliminating extra time in Champions League playoff matches, according to The Guardian.

There is serious consideration of moving directly to penalty shootouts in the event of a tie, although making changes in the middle of the current television rights cycle, which runs until 2027, is considered unlikely.

Extra time has long been a topic of debate among stakeholders in European football, and some player unions are advocating for its removal, arguing that it is necessary to reduce the pressure on athletes given the congested schedule.
