The Athletic has reported that Premier League club Manchester City is considering Xabi Alonso, the manager of Bundesliga team Bayer Leverkusen, as a potential successor to current manager Pep Guardiola.
The information suggests that the club's management has already begun searching for options to replace the 53-year-old Guardiola, whose contract is valid until the end of June 2025. The 42-year-old Spaniard Alonso, who is currently at the helm of Bayer Leverkusen, is on the shortlist of candidates.
Earlier, Football Insider reported that, in contrast to these rumors, Guardiola is close to extending his contract with Manchester City for another season. In discussions with Insider Fabrizio Romano, Guardiola expressed a desire to manage a national team at some point of his career.
After seven matches in the 2024/2025 Premier League season, the City remain in second place with 17 points under Guardiola's management.
