German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen is set to be the new captain of La Liga club FC Barcelona for the 2024/25 season, according to Marca.
The captaincy may be handed over to the 32-year-old goalkeeper after the departure of midfielder Sergi Roberto this summer.
Ter Stegen joined Barcelona from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2014. The upcoming season will mark his 11th consecutive season with the Catalan club.
He ranks second in the club's history for the number of matches played by foreign players for the Blaugrana, with a total of 413 games, 405 goals conceded, and 174 clean sheets.
On Monday, August 12, Marc-André ter Stegen will officially receive his new status, debuting as captain in the Joan Gamper Trophy match against French side AS Monaco.
Previously, it was reported that Frenkie de Jong and Ronald Araújo will remain as vice-captains. Another player will also join them, although his name has yet to be revealed, with Robert Lewandowski and Pedri being the main candidates for this role.
On August 11, Barcelona's press service announced the departure of Sergi Roberto after 18 years with the club.
Additionally, ter Stegen has stated that there should be a mandatory system in place for determining goals in Spanish football.
