Barcelona and Germany goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen shared the details about his past conflicts with former Argentine forward Lionel Messi during their time at the club.
I have immense respect for Messi, but there were times when we didn’t see eye to eye, and our relationship was not at its best. Sometimes I was to blame, sometimes it was him.
The 32-year-old German and the 37-year-old Argentine played together for Barcelona from 2014 to 2021, after which Messi left the Catalan team.
Lionel Messi played 778 matches for Barcelona, scoring 672 goals and providing 303 assists. With the club, he won ten La Liga titles, seven Copa del Rey trophies, and eight Spanish Super Cups, along with four Champions League titles, three UEFA Super Cups, and three FIFA Club World Cups.
In the current season, ter Stegen has only played seven matches for Barcelona in all competitions due to injury, keeping one clean sheet. His contract with the club runs until the summer of 2028, and his market value is estimated at 20 million euros by Transfermarkt.
Currently, Barcelona have accumulated 67 points, staying at the top of the La Liga standings.
Recently, ter Stegen resumed training with the main squad of Barcelona for the first time since his injury.
Additionally, TEAMtalk reports that Barcelona are looking to bring Lionel Messi back after the 2026 World Cup.
