The press office of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has released a statement following the issuance of an arrest warrant for the former president of the organization, Luis Rubiales, by the country's prosecutors.
The statement on the federation's website said:
The RFEF has today offered its full cooperation to the police investigation, as well as to the public prosecutor, after the search of its headquarters. Furthermore, the RFEF has called for total transparency in the institution that runs Spanish football. As such, it is keen that the investigation underway should proceed uninhibited until its conclusion.
It is worth noting that the warrant was issued for the 46-year-old former president in connection with an investigation into an alleged unlawful contract with Saudi Arabia, involving the transfer of rights to hold the Spanish Super Cup in that country.
Earlier, Rubiales was banned from football activities for three years due to a scandal after the 2023 Women's World Cup final. He kissed forward Jennifer Hermoso on the lips without her consent during the award ceremony.
In September 2023, the former head of RFEF officially announced his resignation. Additionally, the court ordered him to stay away from Hermoso and not to communicate with her.
