England's head coach Gareth Southgate could receive a knighthood, even if the national team loses in the final of the Euro 2024, according to The Telegraph.
It is reported that Southgate could have received the title after the Euro 2020 final with Italy, but there were issues with his taxes at that time. The 53-year-old coach could be knighted, even if England doesn't win Euro 2024.
It is noted that the coach's current achievements with the team will overshadow the old tax issues, which Southgate has already corrected, according to the reports.
Moreover, forward Harry Kane may also be promoted to the rank of officer, and other players from the English team will be awarded honorary certificates.
Southgate has been in charge of the English national team since September 2016. Under his leadership, the team has played 101 matches, winning 64, losing 17, and drawing 20.
In the final, England will face Spain. The match will take place on Sunday, July 14, at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin. The start is set for 22:00 GMT+3.
It has also been reported that under the guidance of the 53-year-old coach the English team has reached the finals in two out of four major tournaments.
