Serie A Matches Postponed After Pope’s Passing are Planned for April 23

The press office of the Italian football championship has announced the decision regarding four postponed matches from the 33rd round of Serie A, which were delayed due to the death of Pope Francis.

The matches Torino vs. Udinese, Genoa vs. Lazio, Parma vs. Juventus, and Cagliari vs. Fiorentina, which were initially set for April 21, will now take place on April 23.

It is important to note that Francis, who was known as Jorge Mario Bergoglio before being elected by the papal conclave, passed away on April 21 at the age of 89. In recent years, the head of the Catholic Church, the first non-European pope in 1,200 years (originally from Argentina), faced significant health challenges, including being on artificial ventilation from February to March 2025 due to bronchitis and respiratory failure.

Earlier, Spain's top football clubs, Real Madrid and Barcelona expressed their condolences on the passing of Francis.
