Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić explained the reason why he is rooting against his geographic neighbors in the matches of World Cup 2022, where the Croatian national team is playing.

You congratulate Croatia by saying, 'Bravo, neighbors,' I will not do that. I was rooting for Argentina and I will be rooting for Morocco. You don't pick your neighbors, they aren't your friends. There are many reasons why I was rooting for anyone but Croatia. They are both personal and emotional. You choose your friends based on interest, loyalty and respect for each other, not because they live near you. I don't know who I will be rooting for in the final, but I know who I will be rooting for in the third-place match - Morocco. They are our brothers who will never acknowledge Kosovo's independence. Are you saying that they are cheered on by the Muslim population? So what? They are our brothers and friends.
The Serbian national team failed to overcome the group stage of the World Cup, failing to qualify from the group with Brazil, Switzerland and Cameroon, and having earned only one point. The Croatian team reached the semifinals, where they were defeated by Argentina (0-3).
Consolation final of the World Cup-2022 Croatia vs Morocco will take place on December 17 at the International Stadium in Doha and will begin at 18:00 GMT+3.
