Bayer Leverkusen and Iran national team forward Sardar Azmoun, who previously played for Zenit St. Petersburg, said he could have moved to Marseille at the end of the winter transfer window.
Sardar Azmoun quoted by the Iranian Football Federation
My transfer was almost 100 percent approved. Everything fell apart at the last moment. I even managed to choose a playing number in Marseille, but ended up staying in Leverkusen.
Azmoun became Bayer's player in the winter of 2022 following a transfer from Zenit. The 28-year-old forward played a total of 25 matches for the Leverkusen-based club, scoring one goal with four assists.
