Russian authorities have asked the UAE to deport Spartak Moscow and former Netherlands national team forward Quincy Promes, De Telegraaf reports.
According to the Dutch publication, Russia is demanding the deportation of the 32-year-old footballer in connection with unpaid taxes. Earlier Mash reported that Promes owed the Federal Tax Service (FTS) 397 thousand rubles (4200 USD).
Promes was first jailed in the UAE in February after a traffic accident. He was released, but some time later was arrested again - this time at the request of the Dutch prosecutor's office, insisting on his deportation. In his home country, the athlete was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison.
It was reported that the process of Promes' deportation to the Netherlands may take at least a year.
