Manchester United forward and Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo commented on the squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which was announced by Portuguese coach Fernando Santos on November 10.
We are once again ready to bring glory to Portugal! There are 26 names on Fernando Santos' list, and we are all called forth! Go Portugal!
The 37-year-old Portuguese will play his fifth World Cup. He will repeat the achievement of Mexico's Antonio Carbajal, Rafael Márquez and German world champion Lothar Matthäus. Italian world champion Gianluigi Buffon has also been to five World Cups, but he has only appeared in four tournaments.
Ronaldo played a total of 17 matches at the World Cup, scoring eight goals and two assists. He didn't score a single point in six playoff games. The best result with Cristiano in the Portuguese squad was fourth place at the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
Portugal will face Uruguay, Ghana and South Korea at the 2022 World Cup group stage.
