Spanish newspaper Marca reports that Real Madrid is actively searching for a new defender following the injury of Dani Carvajal, who will miss the rest of the current season.
The source states that los Blancos have already begun negotiations for the transfer of 21-year-old Castello Lukeba from Leipzig. Besides, the club also considers 18-year-old central defender Jorrel Hato from Ajax among other candidates.
There is also talk of a third option, 18-year-old Vitor Reis from Palmeiras.
To recall, the 32-year-old Carvajal suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament during the ninth round of La Liga against Villarreal, which ended in a 2-0 defeat. He will undergo surgery and miss the rest of the season.
Carvajal has been with Real Madrid since 2013, winning the UEFA Champions League with the club in June 2024. This past summer, the 32-year-old was named team captain.
Earlier, Real Madrid’s head coach, Carlo Ancelotti, shared a post on social media expressing his support for the injured Carvajal.
Carvajal stated that he is determined to recover and return “like a beast”.
