On February 6, the press service of Real Madrid reported the death of former goalkeeper and coach Miguel Angel Gonzalez Suarez (Miguel Angel) in his 77th year of life.
The cause of death of the legend is not disclosed. Angel was survived by his wife, son and two grandchildren.
The goalkeeper made his first steps in professional sports playing handball, later switching to football. Angel played with the Blancos from 1967 to 1986, winning the La Liga title eight times (1971/1972, 1974/1975, 1975/1976, 1977/1978, 1978/1979, 1979/1980), the Spanish Cup five times (1969/1970, 1973/1974, 1974/1975, 1979/1980, 1981/1982) and the UEFA Cup once, in 1985.
Besides, the goalkeeper played for the Spanish national team from 1975 to 1982, appearing in 18 matches and participating in the World Cup in 1978 and 1982.
After finishing his professional career as a player, Miguel Angel acted as a delegate of the main team of Real Madrid and was a coach of goalkeepers. In December 2022, the club legend was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
