Edition AS with reference to Sport Bild reported that head coach of German Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen Xabi Alonso may leave the team in the summer of 2024 and lead another club with more titles.
Bayern, as well as Spanish Real Madrid and English Liverpool are among the candidates. Alonso's move to one of these teams is possible because of the buy-back clause in his contract that is only available to the aforementioned clubs. The current contract of the 47-year old coach with the Black and Reds is valid until the end of June 2026.
After seven rounds of the season-2023/2024 Bundesliga club from Leverkusen is in second place in the standings with 19 points. Their next match is against Wolfsburg.
In an interview with Spanish publication Marca, Alonso said that it is too early to talk about his move to Real Madrid, and said that he and his charges need to stay focused. The current coach of Los Blancos, Carlo Ancelotti wished that Alonso would one day lead Real Madrid.
