PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said club striker Lionel Messi wants to stay with the team and will extend his contract, which expires in the summer of 2023.
Al-Khelaifi said talk of extending Messi's contract will resume after the World Cup in Qatar, where the forward is playing for Argentina.
He is very happy, you can see it in the national team. If a player isn't happy, you will see that it affects his performance for the national team. He has performed fantastically for us this season, scoring a lot of goals and giving assists for the national team and for the club. So, what we have agreed on is that we will sit down to talk after the World Cup.
This season, Messi has played 19 matches for the club in all tournaments, scored 12 goals and made 14 assists. PSG are in first place in Ligue 1 after 15 rounds, with 41 points.
The forward spent four matches for the Argentina national team, scoring three goals and giving one assist. After defeating Australia in the round of 16 of the World Cup 2022 (2-1), the team advanced to the quarterfinals, where it will meet with the Dutch team. Match Argentina vs the Netherlands will take place on December 9 at 22:00 GMT+3.
