British football referee David Coote has been suspended from officiating English Premier League (EPL) matches while an investigation into his actions is underway.
The 42-year-old Coote served as the referee for the EPL match between Liverpool and Aston Villa on November 9, 2024, which ended in a 2-0 victory for Liverpool. On November 11, a video surfaced online showing a man resembling Coote making derogatory remarks about Liverpool and former Reds manager Jurgen Klopp.
The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) stated that Coote will not officiate any matches in the top tier of English football until the full investigation is completed. The organization has refrained from making any comments until a final ruling is made.
On November 10, journalist Florian Plettenberg reported on social media that the 57-year-old Klopp has plans to potentially take over as the head coach of the German national team in the future.
