In the game of the sixth round of the group stage against Shakhtar Donetsk, the 26-year-old forward scored a double and gave two assists. The game, held on December 13 at the Dragao stadium in Porto, ended in a 5-3 victory for the hosts.
Other contenders for the award were Benfica winger Angel di Maria, who scored against Salzburg (3-1), Real Madrid forward Joselu, who scored twice against Union Berlin (3-2), and Atletico midfielder Samuel Lino, who scored against Lazio (2-0).
