2018 World Cup champion and UEFA Nations League winner with the French national team, midfielder Paul Pogba, currently a free agent, has revealed that he considered retiring from football.
I would have quit football had I taken four years. I didn’t want to say it publicly, but that’s what I thought. I took the ball and played outside, alone. I made do with what I had. I didn’t understand [why] they gave me the maximum sentence. It meant that they didn’t really listen to what I’d told them. I saw what real life is. It worked on me like a full reset. I aged ten years in one go.
The last club for the 32-year-old Frenchman was Italian team Juventus, with whom he terminated his contract in October of last year. He also played for the English club Manchester United.
On March 10, Paul Pogba officially completed his 18-month doping ban and is now eligible to participate in official matches.
It is worth noting that Pogba was originally banned for four years in February 2024 due to doping found in August 2023. In October, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) reduced his sentence to 18 months.
Additionally, it has been reported that Paul Pogba could potentially transfer to the American club Inter Miami.
