Cole Palmer, the 22-year-old midfielder for Chelsea and the England national team, revealed that he never intended to make the switch to the London club.
I wasn’t even gonna go [to] Chelsea, I got persuaded. I just knew I wasn’t going to play as much as I wanted to. I just wanted to go on loan. I remember training on a Wednesday at City in the afternoon, and the news was 'they're trying to agree a fee'. Every time the ball went out [in training], I’d ask the kit man if they’d agreed the fee yet.
Palmer transferred to Chelsea from Manchester City in September 2023 for a fee of 47 million euros. Since then, he has played 58 matches for the Blues, scoring 32 goals and providing 20 assists.
In the current season, Palmer has appeared in 13 matches across all competitions, scoring seven goals and recording five assists. His contract with Chelsea runs until the summer of 2033, and according to Transfermarkt, his market value stands at 90 million euros.
Earlier reports stated that Palmer would undergo tests to assess the severity of an injury sustained during the 10th round of the Premier League against Manchester United (1-1).
Moreover, the young midfielder was recognized as the Premier League Player of the Month for September.
