Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has warned that the job is not yet done for his side, despite leading 2-0 against Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy ahead of the second leg of their CAF Champions League second preliminary round match.
Riveiro, speaking to Telecomasia.net, has warned his players that the game starts at 0-0, and the result from the first leg should not be on their minds.
“This is football and you cannot assume anything. Yes, we lead 2-0 from the first leg, but that should not be in our minds. We start this game at 0-0 and we should play it like we don’t have a result. Jwaneng is a good side and they can cause an upset, so we don’t have to assume anything. This will be a very difficult match,” said the tactician.
Pirates will qualify for the group stages of the Champions League, having failed to hit the target in last season’s Confederation Cup where they were eliminated in the preliminary rounds.
This time, Riveiro says there’s more drive and hunger within the team.
“We have stayed together now for a while and there is a lot of determination, hunger and drive. The winning mentality within the team is great, and I love it. Everyone wants to achieve something,” said the coach.
Pirates come into the match with a heap of confidence, having won their South African league opener 2-1 against Chippa United in midweek.
