Noah's Goalkeeper Čančarević: Match Against Chelsea Will Be Historic for Armenian Football

Ognjen Čančarević, the goalkeeper for Noah and the Armenian national team, spoke to Telecomasia.net about his emotions following their 4-1 victory over Latvia in the Nations League and the upcoming Conference League matches, where his club will debut in the 2024/25 season.

– What are your feelings about playing for Noah? You are set to face Chelsea in the Conference League in London. How are you preparing for this match?

– This match will go down in the history of Armenian football, and we are looking forward to it with great excitement. I regret that two Armenian teams didn’t make it to the Conference League, but I believe it will happen in the future. We are preparing seriously for the Conference League, and our schedule has both top opponents and teams that we can stand a chance against. Our opening game is at home against the Czech team. We will need to put in our best effort to secure all three points right from that match.

– Today, your teammate nearly scored from the halfway line but hit the crossbar. You scored a similar goal about a month ago – are such goals becoming a trademark for Armenians?

– Yes, it seems to be becoming a routine for us (laughs). Maybe he watched the video of my goal and got inspired. Overall, it was a great shot, a pity it didn’t go in.

In the Conference League qualifiers, Čančarević helped Noah advance past the Greek team AEK, scoring from his own half. In the group stage, Noah will face Mladá Boleslav (Czech Republic), Rapid (Austria), Chelsea (England), Vikingur (Iceland), APOEL (Cyprus), and Bačka Topola (Serbia).

Čančarević, 34, was raised in Serbia, but now represents the Armenian national team after switching his sports citizenship.
