Currently, the national team is led by Roberto Martinez, who took over in 2023. Under the Spanish coach, Portugal reached the quarter-finals of Euro 2024.
Reports indicate that the FPF is exploring compensation options for Fenerbahce, where Mourinho is currently employed, to bring the coach to the national team. His appointment may happen regardless of the national team's results in the upcoming UEFA Nations League finals.
It's important to note that throughout his professional coaching career, Jose Mourinho has never managed a national team.
