Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modrić and Lyon defender Dejan Lovren have been charged by Croatian prosecutors with perjury in a tax evasion case, Mundo Deportivo reports.
According to the prosecution, Modrić gave "false information" about signing appendices after each contract extension, and the fact that he signed them already after leaving Dinamo Zagreb.
Earlier, the court sentenced former Dinamo general manager Zdravko Mamić to 6.5 years in jail for misappropriating €15.5 million. Modrić and Lovren were reported to have testified in support of Mamić, who fled to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The players had previously been charged in the case, but the trial was closed in 2021 and resumed on Wednesday, June 28, 2023.
