Michel Sanchez, the head coach of Girona, has been named the best coach of the 2023/24 season in the Spanish La Liga.
In the voting, the 48-year-old specialist surpassed Carlo Ancelotti from Real Madrid, whose team became the champion of La Liga this season. Also contending for the award for best coach were Diego Simeone from Atletico Madrid, Ernesto Valverde leading Athletic Bilbao, and Marcelino Garcia Toral from Villarreal.
In the recently concluded La Liga season, Girona finished third in the table with 81 points, qualifying for the group stage of the Champions League for the first time in its history.
Michel has been at the helm of Girona since the summer of 2021. The Spaniard's contract with the club runs until June 30, 2026.
Earlier, there were reports that the Girona coach could replace Pep Guardiola at Manchester City if he were to leave the English club.
