According to the press service of the MLS club Inter Miami, the Herons will play a friendly match against Argentine club Newell's Old Boys. The game will take place on February 15 at the Drive Pink Stadium (Fort Lauderdale, Florida).
Newell's Old Boys, based in the city of Rosario, are the hometown team for Argentina forward Lionel Messi, who currently plays for Inter Miami. Messi, 36, played in the Newell's Old Boys from 1994 to 2000. Besides, the current coach of the club Gerardo Martino also played and worked in the club.
Earlier, Inter Miami confirmed their participation in a friendly tournament with Al-Nassr in February 2024. One of Messi's opponents there will be Cristiano Ronaldo. Messi will also compete for the award for the best footballer in the world in 2023, alongside PSG's Kylian Mbappe and Manchester City's Erling Haaland.
