Eight-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi plans to play for Argentina at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, DSports reports.
In addition to Messi, midfielder Angel di Maria, who is set to end his career with the national team this year, is set to take part in the championship.
Head coach of the U-22 Argentina National Team Javier Mascherano commented:
Leo and Angel earned the right to choose; if they want to play in the Olympic Games they can do so.
According to the regulations of the Olympic football tournament, only three players over the age of 23 can be declared in the national team.
The Olympics in Paris will be held from July 26 to August 11.
