Iranian authorities sentenced a former Iranian national soccer team striker to death for his participation in protests, Report news agency with reference to the Iranian media.
According to Report, back in early October, Ali Daei was arrested for participating in anti-government rallies. It later became known that the player was sentenced to death, but the official information hasn't yet been confirmed.
Mass protests erupted in Iran after 22-year-old Iranian woman Mahsa Amini died at the police station after she was arrested for "improperly wearing a hijab". Due to these events, soccer player Ali Daei declined an invitation to the upcoming World Cup.
The Iranian striker played for Bayern and Hertha, Ali Daei scored 109 goals in 149 games for the national team. In 2021, Cristiano Ronaldo broke his record for goals for national teams.
